Bumpy Broom Stick
a: Camshaft ~
b: a broomstick that has been cut
What: "See, the camshaft is like a broomstick that has been cut into pieces and glued back together with the pieces slightly ajar of each other so as to make the broomstick "bumpy." Then as the whole stick rotates around the long axis, the bumps come around and push the valves down into the combustion chamber. This opens a passageway for air/fuel and exhaust to go in and out of the combustion chamber.
Typical camshafts only have a certain, fixed amount of bumps. Ferrari's camshaft design has two, maybe three times as many bumps."
